About Us

Western Australia has one of the strongest economies in Australia. However, to sustain high growth rates and significant investments, the State needs to attract people with the necessary skills.

The Western Australian Government has established a Skills Migration Program to provide prospective migrants with greater information about the opportunities that exist in this State. This program also provides assistance to skilled migrants wanting to make Western Australia their home.

The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC), on behalf of the Western Australian Government, approves all applications for State Sponsorship for skilled visas.

The State Migration Centre (SMC) uses a network of international trade and investment offices and works closely with the nine regional development commissions in order that all necessary information and assistance is provided to skilled migrants.

The SMC also attends many large migration expos held regularly overseas usually in March and October of each year as well as several events conducted by the Australian Government's Department of Immigration and Multicultural Interests. You can find details of the events we are attending in 2006 by viewing our Events section.

SMC staff can also be contacted for assistance in applying for State Government sponsorship under the Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) and State/Territory Nominated Independent (STNI) visa schemes. You can find staff contact details in the Contact Us section of the website.

Further information on State sponsorship requirements and the two skilled visas is now available.
