Throughout the whole year Perth plays host to a spectacular list of arts, entertainment and sporting events. From international sporting events such as the Hopman Cup (a tennis tournament) through to international ballet performances and music performers such as Elton John, U2 and Lady Gaga, there is always something on offer for all tastes.
During the summer months, normally throughout February and March each year, you will see the Perth International Arts Festival running events in and around Perth. From theatre performances at the State Theatre Centre through to visual arts, dance collaborations, street performances, book launches, music events and even free events, the Perth International festival is a fabulous way to discover not only local talent but see renowned international artists. Perth has many local sporting teams in all aspects of sport, Australian rules football, soccer, cricket, netball, basketball, rugby and many more.
Team rivalry is ever present between the AFL (Australian Football League) teams in Perth, the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers. Both teams play at Paterson’s stadium in Subiaco, west of Perth, against interstate teams at a national level.
The Western Warriors is the State’s cricket team playing in the National First Class Cricket Competition. The competition is made up of four day, one day and 20/20 tournaments. They play their home games at the Western Australia Cricket Ground or otherwise known as the WACA.
Perth Glory is the professional soccer team who compete in the A League, Australia’s top soccer league. Their home ground is the NIB Stadium in East Perth.
West Coast Fever is the Western Australian netball team that play in the trans-Tasman championship. They play their matches at Challenge Stadium, west of Perth.
